10 ways to ring in the New Year in the Dan River State Crossings

Celebrate the new year in style in the Dan River region. Local events offer a host of ways to celebrate, from a traditional midnight champagne toast to an adventurous plunge into the chilly waters at Hanging Rock State Park on New Year’s Day 2019.

STOKES COUNTY, NC

Hanging Rock Polar Plunge

Looking for an adventurous way to kick off 2020? Check out the 6th annual Hanging Rock Polar Plunge. Participants brave enough to “take the plunge” will enjoy endless food and beverage consisting of hot dogs, chili, chicken stew, coffee and hot chocolate, as well as a refreshing dip into the spring fed lake with a plunge time temperature between 40 and 45 degrees. Participants are also encouraged to dress in costume with prize categories including best youth, best individual, and best group awards. Concessions will also be available for purchase for non-participant spectators.

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, NC

New Year’s Eve Party With The Catalinas

Bring in the New Year with the Catalinas, known for their beach music. The evening begins at 7:00 p.m. with The Catalinas for hors d’oeuvres & drinks while entertained by MacDaddy DJ. 7:30 p.m. sees a hand-cut prime rib dinner, with music and dancing at 9 p.m.

First Day Hike – Mayo River State Park

Celebrate the first day of 2020 with a 2-mile round-trip hike on Old Anglin Loop Road, Stoneville. The hike begins at 11 a.m.

PATRICK COUNTY, VA

Roar-in 2020 New Years Eve Gala at Primland

Flappers & Gents, celebrate New Year’s Eve in your finest 1920’s attire for a roaring ’20s themed party to ring in the new year. Costumes not required but admired.  See Primland’s website for more information or call (276) 222-3800.

New Year’s Eve at Fairy Stone

Celebrate the dawning of the New Year at the Annual New Year’s Eve Celebration at Fairy Stone State Park. From 9:30 p.m. until 12:30 a.m., dance to the sounds of a local DJ at Fayerdale Hall. Party favors and refreshments provided. Punch will be available for the midnight toast or you may bring your own adult beverage (beer or wine only please).

Mountain Valley Artisan Barn’s New Year’s Eve 2020

A New Years Eve party you won’t forget! Includes live entertainment from Pine Moon and house DJ, buffet and drinks. Call or text for reservations 276-220-6591. Party starts at 7p.m.

First Day Hike at Fairy Stone

Start your 2019 with a hike! Join the park’s interpreter for a campfire on January 1 at 10 a.m. before departing down Lake Shore trail to the spillway. The hike is approximately 1 mile.

HALIFAX COUNTY, VA

World of Sports Bowling Bash New Year’s Eve

Party like it’s 2020 with your family at the World of Sports. 7:30 pm ball drop. Enjoy 4 hours of Glow Bowling, shoe rental, music, light show, prizes, party favors, sparkling grape juice toast.

New Year’s Eve Celebration at Cooper’s Landing Inn

Ring in the New Year with a special celebration at Cooper’s Landing Inn & Traveler’s Tavern. There will be two seatings: 5pm & 9pm. Each seating will consist of a passed hors d’oeuvre reception accompanied by music and a roaring fire in the tavern & a three course Surf-n-Turf dinner. Of course the evening will include a champagne toast, candlelight, and all the special touches like New Year’s Eve favors.
