Great date restaurants of the Dan River region

The Dan River region holds endless possibilities for romance. But after hiking, paddling, biking and gazing across scenic vistas, there’s really nothing like enjoying a romantic restaurant.

The localities in the Dan River Basin offer many great dining options. These aren’t the only restaurants to find romance, but they do offer a great combination of atmosphere and cuisine. Whether on a blind first date or a wedding anniversary, try one of these destinations for a romantic night out.

BISTRO 1888

South Boston, Virginia

BISTRO 1888 offers an array of tantalizing dishes that showcase Chef Margaret Moorefield’s infused American cuisine. The dishes she prepares incorporate elements from Mediterranean, Pacific Rim, class French, Caribbean and Northwestern traditions. Enjoy fresh seafood, aged steaks, chops, handcrafted pastas and vegetarian dishes.  


The Celtic Fringe

Reidsville, North Carolina

The Celtic Fringe brings you Angus beef steaks, burgers and sandwiches in a cozy pub atmosphere. You can also find variety of poultry, seafood, traditional Celtic cuisine, and local southern favorites. Pair your meal with an Irish/Scottish/English and American craft beer or a world-class wines.


Elements, Primland Resort

Meadows of Dan, Virginia

Elements showcases the natural abundance of the Virginia Highlands with inspired dishes. The restaurant incorporates local, organic and sustainable foods whenever possible.


Golden Leaf Bistro

Danville, Virginia

Golden Leaf Bistro celebrates local ingredients throughout its signature dishes. The restaurant is located in the historic Tobacco Warehouse District. Enjoy a full-service bar and wine list. Outdoor and private dining options are also available.


Joe & Mimma’s Italian Restaurant

Danville, Virginia

Open since 1977, Joe & Mimma’s offers paninis and gourmet sandwiches, a variety of pastas, calzones, subs, and a well-built wine list. Enjoy one of its specials incorporating seafood, chicken and beef.


King Cropp Food

Danville, Virginia

King Cropp Food restaurant at 621 Main Street in Danville employs fresh, local ingredients to make both well-loved tradition dishes as well as new tastes and cultures. In spring, summer and fall, King Cropp also runs a food truck that stops in Danville neighborhoods and at local festivals and special events.


Molasses Grill

Halifax, Virginia

The family-run Molasses Grill opened in 2005 and endeavors to deliver quality, detail-oriented food. All its ice creams, desserts, dressings, marinades, and sauces are made from scratch. Seafood and meats are sourced within Virginia and North Carolina whenever possible. Vegetables, fruit, herbs, eggs and other ingredients are also sourced from regional farmers.


That Little Pork Shop

Eden, North Carolina                

For a spunky little BBQ joint with rock-n-roll flair, check out That Little Pork Shop. Owner Donna Hopkins serves pork, of course, but also burgers, flatbreads, wings, Cajun tacos and much more. Find a great wine and beer selection, too.


Rania’s Restaurant, Bar, and Grill

Martinsville, Virginia

Rania’s offers Italian, traditional American, Spanish and French cuisine. The restaurant also offers a full bar, with an international selection of liquor, beer, and wine.


Sophisticated Soul

Reidsville, North Carolina

Satisfy your craving for Farm to Table soul food with a menu that recalls the seasonings and flavors of family favorites. Dishes are made using local ingredients. Here, you can also find the arts community sharing its gifts and inspiration.

Danville, Virginia

Located in a historic building in Danville’s Neapolis, the 616 features a modern Southern-style menu sourced from local and regional markets and farmers. The building’s eclectic decor and sumptuous copper bar only enhance the culinary journey.
